In 2000, David Holmes purchased the Village Pharmacy and relocated it to the site now occupied by Burrum Street Pharmacy. David had met Tim Spargo at a previous employer, and, sharing a passion for pharmacy and the Bundaberg community, they decided they wanted to go into business together.
While Tim travelled and lived in the United Kingdom for two years, David established Burrum Street Pharmacy as one of Bundaberg’s leading pharmacies, paving the way for future growth. In 2003, when a site became available in East Bundaberg, in conjunction with a few local doctors, Eastside Pharmacy and Eastside Medical Centre were established with Annabelle Hirst as manager.
With Annabelle’s likeminded approach to pharmacy and wealth of knowledge and experience, she joined Tim and David and the three formed an official partnership in 2003.
In 2004, the partners began their rapid expansion, purchasing Gin-Gin Pharmacy and Woodgate Pharmacy, providing much-needed service and support for these communities. In 2005, Gin Gin Pharmacy was refurbished, giving it a modern feel and retail focus.
In 2006, West Bundaberg Pharmacy was purchased by the partners and is now home to our MPS facilities, with our MPS team now providing for several nursing homes across Bundaberg, Maryborough and Hervey Bay.
The latest edition to the group has been the purchase of Plaza Pharmacy located on Maryborough Street in 2010. This is the group’s sixth pharmacy, and is the culmination of the partners hard work and determination to grow their business and provide for the local community.
July 2010, saw the group make its first leap outside the Bundaberg Region with the purchase of Cooee Bay Pharmacy, at Cedar Park Shopping Centre, Yeppoon (on the coast of Rockhampton region). This pharmacy is run by Paul & Alice Tucker both Pharmacists formerly of Bundaberg. Paul and Alice relocated to Yeppoon to operate the new Cooee Bay Pharmacy.
